*POINTS the right illustration was a story beat from that baby bones animatic i had in the works... where the boys are living in the forest before snowdin... and totally getting harassed by a time-travelling flowey. little sans' inability to trust other monsters is their reason for sticking around the forest... but after facing a blood thirsty flower wanting his baby brother, sans discovers his magic and defeats flowey, sending him back to his original timeline. realising that the forest is more a danger than a haven, he and his brother head towards snowdin.   
how they ended up in the forest in the first place is a mystery.

"Oh, those two? They just showed up one day." 

in the animatic story sans is 8 and pap is a bae.... because my personal headcanon is that they're 8 years a part.
the illustration on the left is when they're happy and living in snowdin. pap 2, sans 10
